PURPOSE:To provide a method for efficiently removing malodorous substances such as mercaptan, ammonia, amine, aldehyde, etc., or harmful substances such as plant growth acceleration substances such as ethylene, etc., and removal agents for use in the method. CONSTITUTION:A harmful substance removal agent having specific surface area of 100m<2>/g or larger is prepared by drying a solid product at a temperature below 300 deg.C. The product is obtained by hydrolysis of alkoxide of a 1-4C alcohol and titanium, aluminum, zirconium etc., in the presence or absence of precious metals such as silver, palladium, etc. These harmful substance removal agents, as they are or being carried by porous materials of various kinds, are brought into contact with harmful materials under or not under irradiation of ultraviolet rays. |
