A pneumatic radial tire comprises a radial carcass (1) of at least one carcass ply, a belt (2) and a tread (3) successively arranged on the carcass outward from the crown portion in the radial direction, in which the tread has a plurality of circumferential grooves (4) extending circumferentially of the tire and a plurality of island portions (6) defined by these circumferential grooves and both side ends (T) of the tread.
