<p>A diagnostic apparatus includes light sources (LD1 to LD4) emit four near infrared light rays of different wavelengths. The light rays are introduced into a body organ to be subjected to diagnosis and the light rays transilluminated through the body organ are picked up. The transilluminated light is analysed to provide variations in concentration of both oxyhaemoglobin and deoxyhaemoglobin, DELTA [XHbO2] and DELTA [XHb], in the organ. A CPU (64) provided in the apparatus performs an arithmetic operation of K x DELTA [XHbO2] /{ DELTA [XHb] + DELTA [XHbO2]} and provides an operation result, where K is a predetermined constant.
