Medical diagnostic device with electrical illumination, esp. otoscope or ophthalmoscope has light emitted from the illuminating lamp deflected into the required direction parallel to the viewing direction by means of photoconductors. The photoconductors are plexiglass (RTM) rods. More specifically, the light-receiving end surfaces (28) of the plexiglass rods are bundled in front of the lamp and the light- emitting end surfaces (29) are distributed around the area of investigation and point towards the field of investigation. Plexiglass rods may be used in pairs, and are pref. of rectangular cross-section. Preferred cross-sectional area is 1-10 (5) mm2. The plexiglass rods are very simple and inexpensive in use. They eliminate problems associated with the bundling of glass fibres.
