摘要 PURPOSE: To provide an economical and non-troublesome optical signal amplifier capable of minimizing the number of components required for assembly and a method for manufacturing the amplifier of this kind capable of integrating amplifier components required for connecting an amplifier waveguide to an optical fiber for transmitting optical signals. CONSTITUTION: This induced emission type optical signal amplifier composed of a glass optical waveguide doped with an optically active material capable of generating population inversion under pumping radiation is constituted. The amplifier is provided with a means for connecting pump power emitted by a laser by the absorption wavelength of the active material to one end part of the waveguide and the means for connecting the signal power of the emission wavelength of the active material modulated by input signals to be amplified to the waveguide. The waveguide is integrated inside a glass body doped with the optically active material and integrated inside the glass body as an adjacent guide length brought closer or separated so as to minimize a space required for the waveguide of a prescribed length.
