A ball and socket joint for motor vehicles; particularly a supporting joint for the suspension of independently guided wheels of motor vehicles, comprising a joint housing in which the ball head of a joint spigot or pin is mounted in a correspondingly shaped hollow space, the housing having an aperture through which the spigot or pin projects out of the housing, is characterised in that the ball head or a bearing member supplementing a hemispherical or conical spigot head to produce a complete sphere, or the joint housing, or a bearing shell provided between the' ball head or the bearing member and the joint housing consists of aluminium with an eloxalised working surface. The components of the joint not consisting of aluminium may be made of steel. The eloxalised surface has a porous structure permitting the absorption of lubricating oil for permanent lubrication. The head of the spigot or pin may be either of fully spherical shape or of a hemispherical shape which is supplemented to produce a complete sphere by a bearing member through which the spigot or pin passes. The coefficient of friction of the working surface may be further reduced by molybdenum disulphide 'or graphite. |
