<p>PURPOSE: To mechanically energize in installation and to dispense with any additional operational means by energizing a metal-to-metal seal by the fitting engagement between inner and outer tubular members and by providing a means deenergizing the metal-to-metal seal during retreating operation. CONSTITUTION: An outer assembly 14 is constituted of a chain lock assembly 28, an adapter spool 30, and an end spool, and the chain lock assembly 28 is provided with an end flange 34, an intermediate flange 36, a lock ring 38, and a piston 40. The end flange 34 has an O-ring 44 disposed in a groove in the inner face, the inner face seals the outer face of an internal material 12, and a ring retreating chamber 42 is partitioned by a ring part of the internal material 12. The maintenance of the pressure in the chamber 42 is guaranteed by an O-ring 46 disposed between staged shoulders on the abutment face of the adapter spool 30 and the end flange 34. A port 48 provides a means for introducing pressurized fluid into the ring chamber 42 in retreating the internal material 12.</p> |
