PURPOSE: To improve sliding friction of a seal device in relation to a rotatable shaft and to prevent a non-rotatable seal ring from receiving high pressure to cause harmonized deflection by permitting the both lobes of a Quad-ring to control the pressure on the seal device. CONSTITUTION: A non-rotatable seal ring 20 is centered on a balance sleeve 33 toward the balance sleeve 33 by a Quad-ring 11 arranged on its ground 34. This Quad-ring 11 allows the axial movement of the non-rotatable ring 20, prevents the unfavorable deflection of the non-rotatable seal ring 20, and provides the seal face 22 of a rotatable seal ring 18 with better and harmonized deflection. To attain the improvement, a plurality of radial relief passages are provided in the Quad-ring 11 so that high pressure fluid fills clearances between lobes.
