PURPOSE:To obtain a refractory improved in mechanical strength without impairing corrosion resistance, thermal conductivity and spalling resistance by forming a blend of a carbon-oxide-based refractory material with a special phenolic resin as a binder and water, and burning the formed blend. CONSTITUTION:A blend composed of a refractory material containing <=50wt.% total amount of carbonaceous material and the remainder of one or two or more of Al2O3, SiO2, ZrO2 and MgO, a spherical or granular self curable special polymeric phenol-formaldehyde resin as a binder containing a polymer having methylol groups in an amount of (1/5) to (1/15) compared with that of general- -purpose resol type phenolic resin, mild self curability and >=10000 weight- average molecular weight before curing is kneaded with water, granulated, formed and then burned. |
