1,093,592. Tilting metallurgical converters. VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISENUND STAHLWERKE A.G. Jan. 13, 1965 [Jan. 13, 1964], No. 1535/65. Heading F4B. In a self-adjusting transmission for tiltable converters, the detrimental effect to the driving pinion 4 and the trunnion gear attached to the furnace, of relative movement between the two is obviated by mounting the pinion shaft in a bearing bracket 9 that is attached to a rotatable base 10 supported by a guiding member 12 which is itself slidable along rails 15 inserted in the framework of the converter 6. Balls, rollers 13 or the like are used between the annular flange 11 of the rotatable base 10 and the guiding member 12 and also between the supporting noses 16 of the guiding member 12 and the groove 14 formed in the rails 15. In an alternative arrangement the bearing bracket 9 may first be mounted on a slidable table which is then attached to a rotatable base. The pinion may be made of a softer material than the trunnion gear and/or any idlers in mesh with the pinion. |
