PURPOSE:To efficiently produce 2-4C amino acid by subjecting 3C polyhydric alcohol or dimer thereof, especially inexpensive glycerin, propylene glycol, etc., to a series of reactions consisting of oxidation, amination and reduction in the presence of a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Ammonia, oxygen and hydrogen are fed into a 3C polyhydric alcohol or dimer thereof, especially glycerin, propylene glycol or oxidation intermediate thereof and the above-mentioned compound is subjected to a series of reaction consisting of oxidation, amination and reduction in good balance in the presence of a catalyst in which an element selected from Pt, Pd, Rh, Ru, Re, Cu, Ag and Au, an element selected from Sn, Pb, Sb, Bi, Se and Te and an element selected from rare earth elements are combined to provide the 2-4C amino acid (e.g. serine, alanine, glycine, or gamma-aminolactic acid). An amino acid for medicine, food, feed, etc., is obtained from an inexpensive raw material in good efficiency by the above-mentioned method. |
