Joint sepn. of As, Sb, Bi, and Fe from electrolyte solns. of valuable metals and subsequent recovery of the interfering elements comprises (a) mixing aq. acidic electrolyte solns. (pref. Cu/H2SO4) with a sparingly water-soluble organic solvent (pref. kerosene) contg. 1 or more hydroxamic acids of formula R-C(O)NHOH (I) (R = pref. branched satd. 7-19C alkyl, or up to 19C cycloalkyl or aryl pref. in a concn. of 0.5-1.0 mol/1 organic phase; (b) intensive mixing of the aq. and organic phases pref. for 10-20 min. at 30-60 deg. C in a mixer-settler; (c) removing the organic phase after phase sepn. and mixing it with a sulphureting agent, pref. H2S in a partial pressure of 1-3 bar at 40-90 deg. C over 5-20 min.; (d) sepn. of the sulphide pptes. of As, Sb, and Bi by conventional means from the organic phase; (e) mixing of the organic phase with a water-soluble complex-former for Fe or an aq. soln. of such, pref. in a concn. of 0.5-1 mol/1 over 5-15 min.; (f) re-extn. of the Fe complex with water, and (h) purificn. or recycling of the remaining organic phase.
