A carton, esp. for a dozen eggs, consists of a bottom part made of papier mache which is joined to a cover made of transparent thermoplastic material. The cover has flaps along one side with conical bosses which are sealed to hollow bosses along one side of the bottom part to form a hinge. Specifically, the bottom part has twelve cells, sepd. by raised centres and curved partitions, with a peripheral flange. The cover has similar raised centres and a peripheral flange. Detent fingers engage in undercuts of the flange. The cover is hinged to the bottom part along the flange by bosses, hot welded to hollow bosses of the bottom.
