The seismological data are derived from natural or artificially produced vibrations of the earth, e.g. from shock waves. The amplitude values of the results are recorded on magnetic tape or other storage medium over a long period. Data registered within separate time periods form data blocks. The max. amplitude (ABSMAX), the energy total or other characteristic value specific to the data block is derived from N scanned values within a data block. The characteristic values of several sequential data blocks are stored in a characteristic value memory. From here they are read out for compressed graphic representation on a display.
