Treatment of heavy-weight fabrics (I) of cellulosic fibre materials is carried out with a soln. or dispersion contg. a substd. imidazolidinone (IIA) or a prod. (IIB) still contg. free OH (gp(s). and formed by reaction of (IIA) with a 1-8C aliphatic satd. alcohol, diol or polyol; R1-2 independently = 1-4C alkyl. USE/ADVANTAGE - (II) is a highly effective rotting inhibitor and does not release HCHO. It is useful for outdoor articles with a mass/unit area of over 200 g/m2, esp. 200-1000 g/m2. Treated (I) are used (claimed) for lorry tarpaulines, marquees, tent cloth, boat covers or sail cloth.
