Socket for hip joint prosthesis - is fastened to pelvis by circular flange

A hip joint prosthesis has a cup shaped socket (1) implanted in the pelvis. The internal surface of the socket is lined with plastic (9) to form a bearing for the ball head of a shaft which is implanted in the femur. The socket body has a circular flange (3) which abuts against a corresponding circular support plate (11) which is fastened to the pelvis. The socket flange (3) is fastened to the support plate (11) in two or more places. At least two of these fixing points are arranged at 180 deg. to each other. USE/ADVANTAGE - Socket for hip joint which can be implanted without weakening the pelvis.
