Evaluation by differentiation of sequence of measured values - applying newton algorithm to obtain tabular function of difference between successive measurements in two orthogonal directions

In a function formed from the sequence of measurements their slopes are obtd. by differentiation and the distances between the adjacent slopes are found from the sequence of differential coeffts. These distances are compared with reference values formed from one or more preceding distances with the addn. of a max. allowed deviation. Distances are marked when the reference values are exceeded. A Gauss algorithm applied to the Cartesian co-ordinates (3) computes an ellipse (4). USE/ADVANTAGE - Geomagnetic field measurements in vehicular navigation systems, perturbed measurements can be distinguished unambiguously from unperturbed ones.
