<p>Disclosed is an element substrate for liquid crystal display devices and its production method. The element substrate includes pixel elements for driving pixel electrodes of the liquid crystal display device. Each pixel element comprises a first conductor (2), an insulating layer (6, 7) formed on the first conductor and a second conductor (8) formed at least partly on the insulating layer. The insulating layer (6, 7) comprises a first insulator on the side surfaces and the top edges of the first conductor (2) and a second insulator (7) on the remaining area of the top surface of the first conductor (2). The second insulator has a thickness higher than that of the first insulator and only the overlapping part of the first conductor, first insulator and second conductor forms the pixel element. By controlling the area of the top edges of the first conductor covered by the first insulator, deviations in the surface area of the side surfaces of the first conductor may be compensated for. <IMAGE></p> |
