<p>PURPOSE:To inexpensively obtain the thermal transport printer having high printing quality by having paper transport means which transport paper at the paper traveling accuracy as small as >=1/2 pitch and arbitrarily moving and positioning a thermal head at the change part of the color and color of a multicolor face sequential ink film. CONSTITUTION:This printer has the positioning means to 36 which move and position the thermal head by one pitch in parallel with the axial direction of a platen roller 6 at the small dividing accuracy of at least >=1/2 pitch of the interdot pitch of the thermal head 19 and the paper transport means 28, 29, 31 for transporting the paper 25 at the small paper traveling accuracy of at least >=1/2 the pitch per 1 line pitch in the traveling direction. The thermal head 19 is arbitrarily moved and positioned to the change part of the color and color of the multicolor face sequential ink film 27 and the printing is executed, by which the high-resolution printing with the thermal head 19 having an ordinary resolution is attained.
