PURPOSE:To minimize the fall of an active material at the time of group constitution and enhance the mechanical strength by kneading a specified binder solution and a thickener solution together with an active material powder mainly containing cadmium oxide to form a paste active material. CONSTITUTION:A binder solution obtained by heating and dissolving a polyvinyl alcohol in a solvent and allowing it to cool and gel and a thickener solution obtained by heating and dissolving a thickener to the solvent and allowing it to cool are kneaded with an active material powder mainly containing cadmium oxide, and the obtained paste active material is applied to a conductive support body and dried. In a preferred mode of this manufacturing method, the thickener is carboxymethyl cellulose, the saponification ratio of polyvinyl alcohol is 85mol% or more, the drying temperature is a temperature ranging from room temperature to 150 deg.C. Thus, the mechanical strength is highly improved, and the fraction defective at the time of group constitution can be reduced. |
