PURPOSE:To form a compact, light optical head by providing a semiconductor laser and a photodetector which is arranged in the direction that is inclined by about 45 degrees with respect to the emitting direction of the semiconductor laser on the same substrate. CONSTITUTION:A photodetector 2 is arranged on the slant surface of a substrate 3 which is inclined by about 45 degrees with respect to the emitting direction of a semiconductor laser 1 and positioned on the same plane as the emitting surface of the semiconductor laser 1. A half mirror coat 6 is provided on the surface of the photodetector 2. A part of the light is reflected from the surface of the half mirror coat 6 and directed toward an objective lens 4. The light is condensed on the recording surface of an optical disk 5. The reflected light whose amount of light is modulated with pits is returned into the direction of the photodetector 2 again. The remaining light is made to advance in the intact pattern and directly cast into the photodetector 2. Thus, the light emitting part and the light receiving part can be made compact to a large extent, the number of the parts of the optical head itself can be decreased and the optical head can be formed in a compact configuration having a light weight. |
