PURPOSE:To increase the charging capacity of a positive electrode and increase the discharge capacity of a battery dominated by the positive electrode capacity by forming a paste non-coated part on a negative electrode situated on the most outer circumferential part of a wound electrode group, and allotting the volume corresponding to this part to the positive electrode. CONSTITUTION:Water is added to the powder of a hydrogen storage alloy, for example, LaNi46Mn62Al82, and a polyvinyl alcohol as a binder to form a paste, which is then laid on an electrode base body in which one surface of the end part is coated with an epoxy resin to form an electrode having a determined thickness, and the coat of the epoxy resin is removed. A sufficient amount of water is added to, for example, nickel hydroxide which is an active material, metal nickel powder, metal cobalt powder and the polyvinyl alcohol as the binder to form a slurry, and this slurry is charged in the electrode base body followed by drying, and then pressed by roller to form a nickel electrode having a determined thickness. Thus, the electrode active material of a higher capacity can be charged in the volume of a limited sealed battery, and a secondary battery having high capacity and high performance can be obtained. |
