[Also in Divisions F1 and F2] The adjustable-pitch blades in a ship's propeller are sealed to the hub 3 by a device 1 (Division F2) which can be operated on from outside in an emergency to bring a second seal into use. When the second seal (43), Fig. 2 (not shown) is to be put into use, rings (19), (21) are withdrawn by screws (47) towards an abutment (51), the worn seal (41) thereby being unloaded and the second seal compressed against sliding surface (39). Each blade is fixed by bolts 9 to a ring 11 which is connected by crank-pins 15 to a pitch-setting mechanism 17.</p> |
