In the preparation of coffee water and ground coffee are conveyed through the opened topside of a container into the container which is then closed off on its upper side by a filter and the water is moved through the filter to the outside, the water and the coffee being supplied only in vertical direction. The water and the coffee are mixed before they are carried into the container. There is scarcely any tuburlance in the container so that the ground coffee will have a prolonged contact time with the water.
