The ice storage system is used for manufacturing ice in the night, and air-conditioning a room by use of the melting energy of the ice in the day. The apparatus prevents the structure from rupture caused by excessive freezing, and reduces an energy waste for freezing by measuring the ice thickness in the ice storage system. The apparatus comprises an ice manufacturing coil (31) assembled on a guide pipe (32) fixed at a lower part of a ice storage vessel (30), and a flexible tube (34) connected to the coil (31). The ice manufactured surrounding the coil moves the coil upward by the buoyancy force. The displacement is linear to the ice manufactured in the coil, measured by a sensor (35), and converted into electronic signal to control a thermal storage.
