Special character keys for typing special characters which are not provided on a print wheel (60) are provided on a key board (10). Further, a memory having first and second registers is provided within the type writer, and the normal characters and special characters are stored in the first and second registers. The normal characters are searched in the first register, and are typed through the print wheel (60), while the special characters stored in the second register is typed through the keys of the keyboard (10). When a correction key is inputted, the typed characters are stored in a correction buffer.
