A layout for control of the movement of trains, or the like, comprises a plurality of so-called foreground entities C, D, S, such as for example the signals, the switch boxes of switch points, the devices for detecting the integrity of the line and the passage or the presence of trains (so-called rail circuits), and the like, and a control centre A.S.C.V. for the movement of the trains in the railway network and for control of the foreground entities C, D, S, preferably of the electronic processor 1 type. To make full use of the capabilities of the computerised control centre, the foreground entities C, D, S are of the so-called intelligent type, or provided with means 10, 11, 12, 13 which make them able to perform certain functions, such as the specific operating function in the railway network, the detection and the processing of data pertaining to their operating state and to their diagnostic state, or the like, in a way independent from the direct control of the centre A.S.C.V.
