PURPOSE:To inexpensively and stably obtain an image with high image quality according to the kind of an original by controlling the gradation characteristic of an output image by changing an interval between an electrostatic image holding member and an image developing member. CONSTITUTION:The gradation characteristic of the output image is controlled by changing the interval between the electrostatic image holding member 17 and the image developing member 16. That means, a driving means 6 drives an optical system by modulating light emitted from a light source 7 based on the information of image density. An interval control means 5 controls the gradation characteristic of the output image by changing the interval between the holding member 17 and the developing member 16 based on the information of the image density. Therefore, (gamma) need not be corrected and the lowering of the quantization level of the inputted information of the image density can be eliminated by simple constitution. Besides, the image having the excellent gradation characteristic according to the kind of the image of the original can be obtained. Thus, the quality of the image is improved according to the information of the image density of the original. |
