The roll hanging device for winding rolls on roll cutting and winding machines has at least one cylinder of the cylinder piston unit (8) held on one side by an axially displaceable hanger (18) which is designed to interact with a limit switch (24) which checks the position of the winding arms (2) and releases an axial lock of the tension heads (3) and change-over of a control valve (14) of the control mechanism (9). Lowering brake valves (20) are mounted in the control lines (11) of the cylinder piston units (8) to keept the position of the axially displaceable cylinder hanger (18) in the force acting direction. The storke restriction for the winding arms (2) is formed by an upper stop (26) which holds the winding arms in the winding position and thus blocks the axial displacement of the cylinder hanger, and by a lower stop (27) which in the delivery position of the winding arms lifts the axial lock of the tension heads (3) and interrupts the lowering movement of the cylinder piston units (8). ADVANTAGE - Unintended release of the winding arms/tension heads and unintended lowering of the winding arms is prevented.
