The line transformer has a ferrite core of two halves (1,2) with shanks, between whose front faces (5,6) an airgap is formed of variable width over the core cross-section. Between the front faces a separate ferrite body (7), determines the shape of the airgap. Pref. the permeability constant of the ferrite body material is variable w.r.t. the rest of the core in positive and negative evaluation. The cross-section of the body is smaller than that of the core shank. The body is typically rectangular but may be alternately in the form of a disc, a triangle, a cone, a truncated cone, or a pyramid. ADVANTAGE - No need to grind front end of core shank for obtaining air gap of variable width.
