The side impact protection system is for installation in the front door of a vehicle. It consists of a partially folded inflatable cushion (4) concealed behind a section of covering trim (2a). As the cushion is inflated via the gas feed opening (7) the covering trim swings outwards about an acute angle (alpha). to create a gap (9) through which the inflated cushion can protrude.
