PURPOSE:To obtain the title gas under low pressure without application of heat and at reduced fixed and variable costs by subjecting coke oven gas or a gas composed mainly of it to a plurality of specified treatments. CONSTITUTION:The title method of manufacture comprises adding O2 gas to coke oven gas or a gas composed mainly of it, bringing the gas mixture into contact with a catalyst composed mainly of iron oxide to remove the sulfur compounds, nitrogen compounds and dienes in the mixture, bringing the mixture into contact with a Co-Mo catalyst to convert thiophene in the mixture into H2S, which is brought into contact with a ZnO catalyst and removed by adsorption, and bringing the mixture into contact with an Ni-Al2O3 catalyst to react the CO with H2 in the mixture to thereby produce CH4, wherein the catalytic reactions are effected at 350-550 deg.C without application of heat under a pressure of 1,000-5,000mmaq. |
