The improvement's intention is to prevent rapid unwinding of the loaded cable on the barrel (1) of a winch, should the drive to the barrel fail. The barrel accordingly has a concentric, closed, cylindrical space (9) accommodating a piston (10), which can move from one end of the space to the other while being non-rotatably connected (12, 13) to the cylindrical wall of the space. The piston is carried by a shaft concentric with the space and provided with a thread (8) meshing with the thread in a central bore (11) through the piston (10). The space (9) contains a fluid, and there is given leakage from one side of the piston to the other. The shaft (6) is non-rotatably fixed in relation to the barrel. |
