A kickdown shift arrangement for an automatic transmission operates by electric or electronic pulses in accordance with the rate of movement of the accelerator pedal. As shown the pedal 14 moves a magnet 18 in a solenoid 19, the induced voltage being fed directly to a relay 26 operating the shift valve of the gear-box 11 or, preferably, through a Schmitt-type trigger circuit 21, monoflop circuit 23 and amplifier 25. The trigger circuit 21 operates to produce a pulse when the rate of movement of magnet 18 is sufficient to produce a predetermined voltage in coil 19, while the monoflop circuit 23 operates to lengthen the pulses to enable relay 26 to function. |
