<p>NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R is H or amino-protecting group; R<1> is carboxyl-protected carbamoyl, etc.; R<2> and R<3> are H, lower alkylene or together form propylene; R<4> is H, lower alkyl, benzyl, etc., or R<3> and R<4> are bonded with each other to form butylene; R<5> is isobutyl; (n) is 0 or 1). EXAMPLE:Boc-L-Val-L-Leu-ol (Boc is tert. butoxycarbonyl; Val is valine residue; Leu is leucine residue). USE:The compound has cysteine protease inhibiting activity and is useful as a therapeutic agent for myodegenerative diseases such as muscular dystrophy and vacuolar distal myopathy. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by condensing a compound of formula II with a compound of formula III (R''' is R<4> except for carboxymethyl; X is protecting group of amino acid), removing the amino- protecting group and further carrying out condensation and oxidation reactions.</p> |
