A cue (10) suitable for use by players of pool, snooker and billiards, comprises an elongate member (12) which is axially movable through a sleeve (20) so that a ball striking tip of the member (12) is extendable and retractable beyond one end of the sleeve (20). Energy storage means (40), such as a spring or elastic material act between the sleeve (20) and the member (21) to store energy as the latter is retracted in one direction through the sleeve (20) and drive it in the opposite direction to strike a ball when said stored energy is released. Detent or latch means (28, 32) are provided and are operable to effect holding and release of the stored energy. Such devices may be usable in confined spaces and/or by handicapped people. There is also disclosed strap means for fastening chalk to the feet (Figure 7A). <IMAGE>
