TGF-beta induced gene family.

A new gene family induced by TGF-beta is disclosed. Two new genes, designated beta IG-M1 and beta IG-M2, are induced in response to TGF- beta 1 treatment of mouse embryo fibroblasts. These genes encode proteins containing about 345 to about 380 amino acid residues, with a molecular weight of about 37,000 to about 48,000 daltons and about 38 cysteine residues. The induced proteins share about 50% homology with each other and significant homology with a v-src induced protein in chicken embryo fibroblasts designated CEF-10. These proteins may be involved in producing some of the growth and differention modulating effects of TGF- beta 1. <IMAGE>
