METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CALCULATING AREA RATIO

PURPOSE:To obtain accurate data in spite of the difference in the surface of a printing plate by reading the area ratio of a character from a first memory means and reading the area ratio of the dot corresponding to image data from a second memory means and calculating the area ratio of the printing plate at every predetermined region of the printing plate. CONSTITUTION:The composing data LI 1 and character code CC obtained by layout are supplied to an area ratio converting table 11 and the area ratio of the character contained in each region is calculated at every predetermined region. A layout scanner 12 reads a photograph or figure at every one page unit of a manuscript to convert the same to digital data and also performs layout in order to determine which position of each page the photograph or figure is arranged at. An area ratio converting table 13 calculates the area ratio of the image contained in each region on the basis of layout data LI at every predetermined region in the same way as the area ratio converting table 11. An area ratio adding-up means 14 adds a character area ratio CA and a dot area ratio IA at every region and calculates an area ratio PA wherein a character and an image are combined in a page unit to output the same to a printing place area ratio calculating means 15.
