PURPOSE:To get rid of the uneconomical property, and eliminate fear of ink leakage by a method wherein the opening time for each switching valve is set so that if is in proportion with the capacity of each waste tank and ink consumption quantity respectively. CONSTITUTION:A head recovery mechanism 40 has a suction pump 50 which absorbs waste ink from respective recording heads 9A-9D and discharges to a switching control device 41. When recovery process is performed, the capacity of respective waste tanks 46A-46D is checked, then the consumption quantity of inks for respective colors for printing is respectively obtained. Switching control time is obtained so that it is in proportion with these respective capacities and consumption quantities, and the switching control time is set in a timer which is equipped on the CPU 21 while corresponding with each color. That is, when larger the capacity of a waste liquid tank 46 is, and larger the consumption quantity of an ink is, longer the switching control time is set. Driving of the suction pump 50 is started, a switching valve 48A only is opened to store waste ink in a first waste liquid tank 46A, and it is continued for a period of time which set in the timer. Then, the same control is performed for remaining respective colors. |
