1,134,578. Induction heating. AEG-ELOTHERM G.m.b.H. 26 Sept., 1967 [15 Oct., 1966], No. 43829/67. Heading H5H. Apparatus for the surface hardening of workpieces, such as crankshafts, of differing lengths by chucking the workpiece 29 and rotating it under an inductor 3 in a pair of axially displaceable spindle sleeves 6, 20, is characterized by a hollow, water-cooled make-up bar 21 disposed to represent an extension of a shorter shaft in such a way that uniform heating of long and short workpieces 29 occurs, see also Fig. 3 (not shown). The workpiece 29 is brought into a heating position by a conveyer and lifting means (not shown), and actuates a limit switch (not shown) to cause forward movement of spindle sleeve 6 as far as stop 8, when trip cam 15 actuates switch 17 to cause forward movement of support 18 until centres 1, 2 of the chucking device engage the workpiece. Centre 1 moves against spring 11 until its cam 12 actuates switch 13 to connect the inductor 3 to the voltage source and start rotation of the workpiece. Switch 28 in closed position indicates a long workpiece and actuates appropriate timing means for heating duration. Switch 27 in closed position indicates a short workpiece and actuates appropriate regulators of heating time, voltage &c. to compensate.
|
