PURPOSE:A clarifying and dispersing additive with excellent perbasification ability, ultrafine particle dispersibility and affinity to a lubricating oil or a fuel oil, which contains a hydrotalcite or one coated with an anionic surfactant. CONSTITUTION:The titled additive contains a hydrotalcite of the formula (wherein 3<x<20; 0<y<2; m is a possitive number) of BET specific surface area <=60m<2>/g and average secondary particle size <= about 5mu, pref. about 1mu or less or one coated with an anionic surfactant, as an effective component. The anionic surfactant is pref. an alkali metal salt of a higher fatty acid or a sulfonic acid, e.g., sodium or potassium stearate, sodium or potassium oleate, sodium or potassium laurylbenzenesulfonate, etc. |
