Image recording is effected using (a) a reversible heat sensitive recording material which may be transparent when heated to a first temp. above room temp. and which may be coloured when heated to a temp. above the first temp. and then cooled, and (b) a heating element. The process comprises application of energy onto the heating element for generation of heat in such a manner that each element of an image produced in this recording material is formed by the use of several energy pulses. The succession for prodn. of energy pulses is adjusted under consideration of the ambient temp. in the proximity of the recording material. The amt. of energy used in the heating element is adjusted according to the recording material ambient temp. USE/ADVANTAGE - Useful for prodn. of images where a simultaneous transparent or coloured state with a transparent or coloured background may be used even when the temp. interval for prodn. of the image is small and when heat is applied using a heating element e.g. a thermal head for a short timespan. The durability of the recording material is enhanced.
