The system separates ash particles from conbustion gases, particularly in a refuse-incineration system. They are extracted by one or more layers of profiled separating components at right angles to the gas flow direction. Soft ash particles accumulate on the profiled components (7,8), and are removed at predetermined time intervals by a mechanical scraper (10).
