In a walking beam conveyer used as a cooling bed, each walking beam 1 is moved upwardly as wheels 6 run up ramps 11 when links 21 are moved to the right in Fig. 3. With the objects undergoing cooling clear of fixed beams 2, the links 21 and wheels 6 are made stationary and the beam 1, supported on rollers 3, is moved to the right by piston-cylinder means (not shown). To return the beam 1 to its original position the links 21 are moved to the left before moving the beam to the left. The ramps 11 are longitudinally adjustable. In a modification, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), the ramps are connected by links (30) and are slidable longitudinally to allow for expansion due to heating. Instead of the wheels 6, skids can be used. |
