The observation window is particularly for use in the protective cladding around the working area of a machine tool, having a fixed pane in a frame and a power-driven rotary circular one. A gap is formed between the panes, through which air flows when working. Means are provided (55, 58) to generate higher air pressure in the gap (56) between the rotary pane (5) and the adjacent frame surface (39). The pane edge can be mounted in a bursting or ballast ring (55), which has means (58) for generating an air current at the side towards the frame surfaces.
