Electrostatically actuated microswitch - has armature attached to base via torsional struts to allow pivoting for contacting electrodes

The electrostatically actuated microswitch is mfd. in one piece by an etching process. The microswitch comprises a base (1) with an electrode (2) and an armature (4) spaced apart from the electrode. The armature is attached to the base by two sections (5, 6) on each side of the armature connected via torsional struts (7, 8) which allow pivoting of the armature about an axis (9). The armature is pref. formed as a rocking armature with two sides for contacting separated halves of the electrode. ADVANTAGE - Simplified construction allowing selection of torque required to operate switch by adjustment of torsional strut dimensions.
