An antilock braking system has a valve that provides a pressure reduction function and has parallel regulating stages (2, 2') that connect to the brake cylinders of the rear wheels. An inertia control element (16) is built into the end of the valve. When the antilock system is operationally correct an e.m. actuator holds the inertial element against a valve pin (18). The actuator has a coil (19) and armature pin (20). The valve pin moves a ball away from a control port against the action of a spring. When a fault occurs the valve closes. ADVANTAGE - Delay-independent operation of antilock braking valve. Can be retrofitted.
