A permanently antistatic air cushion laminate having a forming web and a non-forming web, at least of one of said webs comprising a copolymer of (i) an alpha-olefin having the formula RCH=CH2 wherein R is H or C1 to C20 alkyl, C1 to C20 alkoxy, or C6 aryl, and (ii) an alpha,beta-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, said permanent antistatic characteristic being exhibited by the air cushion laminate showing a static decay time less than about 3000 milliseconds after equilibration for 24 hours at room temperature at a relative humidity less than about 15%, after abuse for 24 hours by a water wash. The air cushion laminate may be made with the 8175 bubble machine manufactured by Cryovac. The laminate preferably has a web of ethylene acrylic acid copolymer, EAA, or ethylene methacrylic acid copolymer, EMAA containing quaternary amine antistatic agent. |
