The engine is matched in its torque characteristic to the hyperbola of the tractive force, provides a considerably increased torque even when the engine speed is close to zero and is distinguished by a high power in relation to its size. For this purpose, a separate engine (11) is used for the precharger (19) connected in series with and ahead of the supercharger (20) driven by an exhaust turbine (15) and a low-compression rotary-piston diesel engine is used as the main engine (10), with a large difference in the rated power output, the precharger (19) being designed as a volumetric compressor for the high charge-air pressure for starting, and the charge-air pressure measuring device (24) together with a charge-air temperature measuring device (25) being used to control the operating charge-air pressure of the main engine (10) by means of an output controller (23) of the precharger engine (11). Further increases in power are achieved with the aid of continuously operating glow-ignition devices and continuously operating diesel injection devices. The internal combustion engine is suitable, in particular, for the direct driving of a motor vehicle without the use of a gearbox. <IMAGE> |
