1,130,075. Sieve drum driers. VEPA A.G. 28 Oct., 1966 [22 Nov., 1965], No. 48453/66. Heading F4G. [Also in Division D1] In apparatus for drying and shrinking textile webs, the web passes about sieve drum driers in a substantially tensionless manner during drying and the air flow is produced in a pulsating manner to pass therethrough. The web 16 is fed by a conveyer 17 to sieve drums 5 which rotate at a slower rate than the conveyer speed and the pulsating air flow circulated in the treatment chamber is produced by rotary discs 13 within the drums having apertures 15 co-operating with the perforated drum periphery. In a modification, fluttering of the web is achieved between the drums, by a perforated vibratory shoot which may have an additional, pulsating air flow, Fig. 4 (not shown); by utilizing the normal internal baffles within adjacent drums, Fig. 5 (not shown) to achieve an unstable air flow therebetween; or by utilizing longer internal baffles in adjacent drums to create unstable air flow into the wedge-shaped area formed between adjacent drums, Fig. 6 (not shown). Brushing rollers may be mounted adjacent the sieve drums which may rotate in various directions to enhance the shrinking effect. |
